All on 4 and All on X Dental Implants

Full Arch Implant Dentistry at 1Smile Dental

All on 4 and All on X dental implants are advanced full arch solutions designed to replace an entire set of upper or lower teeth with a fixed, non-removable prosthesis. At 1Smile Dental, this treatment is approached as a comprehensive prosthetic rehabilitation, not simply a surgical procedure.

Our process is built around long-term function, predictable esthetics, and patient comfort by combining surgical implant placement, orthodontic principles, and prosthodontic design under one roof.

What Is the Difference Between All on 4 and All on X?

All on 4 refers to a full arch restoration supported by four implants. All on X is a broader term that allows for a customized number of implants based on bone quality, bite forces, and restorative goals.

At 1Smile Dental, the number of implants is determined by your anatomy and functional needs, not a preset formula.

Our All on X Process

First Appointment: Comprehensive Consultation and Planning

Your initial visit is focused on education, evaluation, and alignment of expectations. During this appointment, we take time to understand your medical history, dental history, lifestyle, and goals.

1Smile Dental | VELscope Cancer Screening, Digital Radiography and Botox

This visit includes:

  • Review of medical and dental history
  • Discussion of expectations and treatment options
  • 3D CBCT imaging
  • Digital intraoral scans
  • Professional facial and smile photographs

These records allow us to evaluate bone volume, bite position, facial balance, and smile design before recommending treatment.

Second Appointment: Implant Surgery and Temporary Teeth

Your surgical appointment is when dental implants are placed using digitally planned surgical guides. Precision planning allows us to position implants prosthetically, supporting the final smile design from the start.

When conditions allow, we deliver a fixed 3D printed temporary prosthesis on the same day. This allows you to leave with teeth immediately while protecting the implants during the healing phase.

Healing Phase: Approximately Three Months

Over the next three months, the implants integrate with the bone and the surrounding tissues stabilize. During this phase, we monitor healing closely and make adjustments as needed to ensure comfort, proper bite function, and tissue health.

This stage is critical for long-term implant success.

Refinement Phase: Designing the Final Smile

Rather than rushing to final teeth, we intentionally use one or more temporary prostheses to refine:

  • Bite alignment
  • Tooth shape and position
  • Speech and comfort
  • Smile design and facial support

These refinements allow us to test real-world function before committing to final materials.

Final Phase: Zirconia Prosthesis Delivery

Once healing is complete and the design is finalized, one of the temporaries is transitioned into a custom zirconia prosthesis.

Zirconia is selected for its:

  • Exceptional strength and durability
  • Natural appearance
  • Stain resistance and hygiene
  • Long-term performance under daily function

The final prosthesis reflects everything learned during the temporary phase, ensuring predictability and longevity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is All-on-4?

+

The All-on-4 treatment concept offers an implant-based solution to patients who have lost all of their upper and/or lower teeth. This remarkable method of care helps patients quickly rebuild complete and beautiful smiles. With All-on-4, your new, and complete set of implant-supported replacement teeth feel secure, stable, and much like your very own.

Is All-on-4 right for me?

+

If you currently wear complete upper and/or lower dentures or are slated to have your remaining teeth extracted, you may be a candidate for All-on-4. First performed by Dr. Paulo Malo in 1998, the All-on-4 treatment concept has helped hundreds of thousands of patients quickly reestablish attractive smiles that look, feel, and function just like a set of natural teeth.

What is the difference between All-on-4 and dentures?

+

The All-on-4 treatment concept offers a fixed and permanent alternative to removable dentures. Unlike dentures, All-on-4 does not rely on messy dental adhesives or natural suction to hold your new set of teeth in place. With All-on-4, your replacement teeth are permanently secured by dental implants, giving you a smile that looks not only great but also feels secure and stable. You'll feel comfortable and confident as you speak, smile, and chew with ease.

How is All-on-4 different from other types of dental implants?

+

While traditional full-arch implants also achieve outstanding results of care, the All-on-4 treatment concept does not involve bone grafting and requires fewer implants to support a full set of teeth. With just four strategically placed dental implants needed to support an entire set of upper or lower teeth, All-on-4 offers a cost-effective and satisfying solution. Patients can often receive teeth the same day as surgery, allowing them to smile and function confidently while healing.

What's the procedure for All-on-4 treatment?

+

Once it's been determined that you're a candidate for All-on-4, treatment planning begins using advanced 3D diagnostics to determine precise implant placement. On the day of surgery, any remaining teeth are removed, four implants are placed, and a sturdy set of temporary teeth is attached. After healing and integration with the bone, a custom permanent restoration is placed.

Will I have teeth right away with All-on-4 treatment?

+

Yes. With All-on-4, temporary teeth can be placed immediately following surgery. A customized, permanent set of teeth is typically placed within a few months once the implants have fully integrated with the surrounding bone.

Will All-on-4 give me a natural-looking smile?

+

All-on-4 provides permanent teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. With patient satisfaction rates exceeding 95%, this treatment restores both confidence and the ability to enjoy your favorite foods comfortably.

How do I take care of my new All-on-4 smile?

+

Caring for your All-on-4 smile is similar to caring for natural teeth. Brush twice daily, clean after meals when possible, and maintain regular dental checkups. Our team will guide you through the best oral hygiene techniques to keep your smile healthy and strong for years to come.

Who is a candidate for All on X?

+

All on X may be appropriate for patients who:

  • Have failing or severely worn teeth
  • Are missing most or all teeth
  • Wear removable dentures
  • Have experienced bone loss or previous dental treatment failures

A comprehensive dental evaluation is required to determine candidacy.
